Mrs. Kalie Bearden - Language Arts

About the Teacher:  Mrs. Bearden is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.  She holds a Bachelor's degree in History and Master's degree in Elementary Teaching.  This is her third year teaching at Norwood Middle.  She is married to a wonderful man, Steven, who doesn't complain too much when she drags him to all the football and basketball games; he even rides the bus with the teams!!!  In her spare time, she enjoys reading, spending time with her family and "children", her dog, Bailey, and her cat, Pooh, coaching cheerleading, and riding on the back of her husband's motorcycle (she's too short and too scared to learn to drive it).  She also admits she is an avid "Twilighter"; she is addicted to the young adult novels Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn, written by Stephenie Meyer.

About the Class: 7th grade Language Arts class covers both Language Arts and Reading curriculum.  This means students will be writing, reading, exploring grammar techniques, interpreting poetry, expanding vocabulary, and much more.  Students follow a functional  routine that allows them to practice grammar and writing skills, vocabulary, and interpret poetry daily.  7th grade Language Arts will be very fast-paced this year, but Mrs. Bearden strives to make sure that students have mastered the standards before she moves forward.  Additionally, she attempts to give students as much time as possible to complete their work in class.  Students will be assigned weekly homework on TUESDAY and THURSDAY nights.  In addition to these out-of-class assignments, students will receive a spelling packet every Tuesday that must be completed outside of class and turned  in every Friday.  Students will also have a spelling and vocabulary test every Friday.

The students will be challenged each day.

Recently, Mrs. Downs was offered the head softball coaching position at Anderson County High School, and she will begin her career as a high school softball coach this spring.  Mrs. Downs’ husband, Ben, is also a coach.  He is the Head Baseball Coach at ACHS. In her spare time, she likes to read, take photos, run, and, sometimes, she just likes being lazy. Mrs. Downs is a huge fan of the Pittsburg Steelers, and she loves to watch many sports.
She and her husband also own two precious dogs, Crumpet and MoMo.

About the Class: Mrs. Downs’ Social Studies classroom is set up for student success. She tries her very best to make learning fun and exciting. She uses many different learning strategies to help the students learn material. The world is an exciting place, and in Mrs. Downs’ class history and geography are going to be explorations the students can enjoy discovering.
